Milestones on the way to Unia

1996: GBI and SMUV co-found the service organisation called unia; eight years later, unia has 20,000 members

 

1998: Establishment of the “Trade Union House”; successive development of cooperation projects (joint newspapers, computer centre and common software, first common administrative offices)

 

2000: The general meetings of GBI and SMUV issue the order to work out the principles for the cooperation or integration of the trade unions

 

2001: The common newspaper “Work” is launched

 

2002/03: The extraordinary general meetings of the SMUV, GBI, VHTL and unia decide to amalgamate into an “Inter-professional trade union”; 2003: planning phase for integration of all sectors

 

2003/04: Implementation of the integration in individual regions and sectors as well as in the tertiary sector

 

2004: Study of future structures; appointment of all responsible people

 

June 2004:  Joint meeting of delegates and central managing committee of the SMUV, GBI and VHTL approve the central incorporation documents of Unia by the founding congress (merger agreement, articles of association, regulations)

 

15.10.2004: Last general meetings of GBI, SMUV, VHTL, unia

 

16.10.2004: Founding congress of Unia (discussion and decision concerning the aims for the first  4 years of Unia)

 

1.1.2005: Start of Unia, implementation of integration in the majority of areas

 

by 2006: Implementation of integration in the remaining areas
